Welcome Visitors!

We hope you will visit Sandy Springs Christian Church (click here for directions) and give us the opportunity to welcome  you personally!  Anyone, regardless of religious affiliation or background, is welcome to participate in worship, communion, or any other scheduled event.  Our Mission is: "To Connect with God and one another, To Inspire faithfulness, and To Serve in joy - as members of the one body of Christ".
Almost 200 years ago, two very different men joined forces to do away with the differences that separate Christians one from another. They affirmed that it should not be our differences of tradition or belief or organization that define us, but our unity in trusting Jesus as Lord. One group simply called themselves “Christian”-- not Methodist or Baptist or Episcopalian or Presbyterian. The other said, “No matter what our differing traditions or other beliefs, all of us are Disciples of Christ.” Thus the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world, was born; our wholeness symbolized by the Table around which in our differences we gather as one.

One day a small group of folks got together and decided to invite everyone to come meet Jesus. They began to make a list of exactly who would be welcome. This is their invitation:

We extend a special welcome to those who are single, married, divorced, gay, filthy rich, dirt poor, yo no habla Ingles. We extend a special welcome to those who are crying newborns, skinny as a rail or could afford to lose a few pounds.

We welcome you if you can sing like Andrea Bocelli or like our pastor who can’t carry a note in a bucket.  You’re welcome here if you’re “just browsing,” just woke up or just got out of jail. We don’t care if you’re more Catholic than the Pope, or haven’t been in church since little Joey’s baptism.

We extend a special welcome to those who are over 60 but not grown up yet, and to teenagers who are growing up too fast. We welcome soccer moms, NASCAR dads, starving artists, tree-huggers, latte-sippers, vegetarians, junk-food eaters. We welcome those who are in recovery or still addicted. We welcome you if you’re having problems or you’re down in the dumps or if you don’t like “organized religion,” we’ve been there too. If you blew all your offering money at the dog track, you’re welcome here. We offer a special welcome to those who think the earth is flat, work too hard, don’t work, can’t spell, or because grandma is in town and wanted to go to church.

We welcome those who are inked, pierced or both. We offer a special welcome to those who could use a prayer right now, had religion shoved down your throat as a kid or got lost in traffic and wound up here by mistake. We welcome tourists, seekers and doubters, bleeding hearts … and you!

And that is precisely, my fellow Disciples of Christ, whom we are called to welcome and with whom we are to share bread at the communion table.

Listed below are a few questions and answers you may have as a first-time visitor with us.

The 5 PM worship, The Table, is a modern worship experience, with touches of ancient practices. At The Table, we incorporate Modern Worship with Authentic Community.

The same sermon is delivered in both services.  The sermon is recorded and is posted on the website.

A “Junior Sermon” experience is available for children ages three through 5th grade during the 10:15 a.m. service.  Participants meet just outside the sanctuary right after morning prayer early in the service.  They will be escorted to Children's Worship Room for a lesson and then return to the sanctuary for participation in communion.

Children between ages three and seven are welcome to attend Children’s Worship and Wonder during the 10:15 a.m. service.  Participants leave during the singing of the Doxology and are greeted in the back of the Sanctuary.   They will be escorted to the Children’s Worship Room where they will remain until you meet them after the service.

Children of all ages are welcome to stay and participate with you in worship.
