In 1960, 15 members of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) saw a need for a Christian church in a developing area north of Atlanta called Sandy Springs.
Progressive at its inception, this newly founded church was led by Rev. Ruth Barbee, one of the first female ministers in the southeast.
The first worship facility, a house, was located on Roswell Road between Abernathy and Dalrymple Roads. A multi-use space was constructed on the site but the location proved unfavorable for a church.
Property was acquired on the corner of Johnson Ferry and Abernathy Roads and a permanent home was begun. In 1971, Sandy Springs Christian Church opened the doors to our present facility. Timbers from the wooden hut that occupied the property were used to construct the focal point of our sanctuary, a large wooden cross.
Since these beginnings, we have continued to strive to be a progressive congregation and to meet the needs of this community. Please browse this site to learn more about the church we have become - and continue to become.
