A major cornerstone of the SSCC youth ministry is
an annual spring break Mexico Mission Trip.
Since 1995 our congregation has spiritually and financially supported our high school youth on this faith-building journey. Accompanied by volunteer youth sponsors (the majority of whom participated in this trip as youth themselves), SSCC youth group members and their friends spend spring break building a simple home for a deserving, impoverished family in the Tijuana area.
Each day our missionaries work alongside the family that will become the new homeowners. Each evening they stay at a primitive campground provided by San Diego-based AMOR ministries, which coordinates many visits such as this one each year.
Working together all day and camping together each night means that our youth also build deep relationships with each other and grow in their personal faith. A highpoint of SSCC's year is the Mexico Celebration Worship Service, led by the mission team on the Sunday morning after their return. Tears often flow as individuals share stories of transformation from the week.
Our youth group also participates in a variety of service projects throughout the year, including preparing meals for neglected and abused children, packing food boxes for the homeless, adopting a needy family at Christmas, and participating in AIDS Walk Atlanta.
